Fresh from winter training, many riders were eager to set the pace.
So it came as no surprise that several breakaways were attempted. Right from the very first kilometers. Jesus Herrada of Cofidis tried his luck. Finally, with thirty kilometers to go, the breakaway was formed by ten riders.
Among them was Belgian Lennert Van Eetvelt (Lotto-Dstny), determined not to settle for second place (2023). On the final climb of the day (Coll Puig Major - 14.2kms at 6% average speed), he took the lead from two riders, who he would dispose of in a sprint on the final steep climb!

Winner's statement: "The difference with last year, when I was second, was luck and good legs...".
