Ethan Vernon (23, Israel-Premier Tech) won the first stage of the Tour des Alpes-Maritimes (2.1) on Saturday in a sprint over 163.8 kilometres from Levens to Antibes/Azur Arena. The Briton finished ahead of Sean Flynn and Vincenzo Albanese (Arkéa-B&B Hôtels). His qualities as a track rider* made it easy for him to overcome his rivals.

The stage was marked by the breakaway formed at km49 by Andrea Mifsud (Nice Metropole Côte d'Azur, new Ekoï 2024 team) and South African rider Morne Van Niekerk. The two riders worked together for almost 100 kilometres, and in the end the young Mouansois rider tried to resist the return of the peloton on his own. He was caught with less than three kilometres to go.

Note the presence of 4 Ekoï riders in the TOP 10.

Number of professional wins : 6

*Among other titles in the discipline, he is the 2023 World Elimination Race Champion (track)

EKOÏ gear : Aerodinamica helmet and OTTIMO sunglasses
