Which Ironmans in Europe?
The European continent hosts some two dozen long-distance Ironman triathlons, including the French Ironman events in Nice and Vichy.
The latest "athletes' choice awards" survey conducted by WTC highlights the triathlons most favored by the Iron Men and Iron Women community in 2019.
The Kalmar Ironman in Sweden is a winner! A flat course in both bike and run leads participants through breathtakingly beautiful Scandinavian landscapes.
It's easy to see why this Ironman competition is Europe's favorite!
The following races also appeal to long-distance enthusiasts:
- The Ironman Lanzarote in the Canary Islands and its splendid volcanic setting.
- The Ironman UK and Ironman Wales, both held in the United Kingdom, are praised for the quality of their swimming event.
- The Ironman Tallinn in Estonia and the Ironman Vitoria-Gasteiz in Spain are for bike lovers.
- The Ironman Hamburg, meanwhile, is rented for its running portion in the heart of the German city of Hamburg and its port.
- The Ironman Austria-Kärnten is among the triathlons "to recommend to a friend": proof that it is indeed one of the most beautiful races in the world.
Which Ironmans in North America?
The North American continent is home to seventeen Ironman competitions: fourteen in the United States, two in Canada, and one in Mexico.
On the other side of the Atlantic, cycling courses are all the rage! In 2019, no less than four U.S. races have been awarded in this category, namely Ironman Lake Placid, Ironman Mont-Tremblant, Ironman Wisconsin and Ironman Maryland.
Among other things, runners enjoyed crisscrossing the roads of Ironman Texas while swimmers enjoyed diving into the Tennessee River.
What Ironmans in South America?
Two Ironman races are held each year on the South American continent, including The Ironman Argentina South American Championship. The 226-kilometer course stretches along the Atlantic Ocean and the famous sandy beaches of Mar del Plata, a seaside city in Argentina.

As for the Ironman Brazil, it is one of the most recommended! It takes place in Florianópolis, a tourist mecca in Brazil, where the turquoise waters attract triathletes from around the world.
What Ironman in Asia?
The Asian continent has five Ironman events:
- Ironman Kazakhstan (Nur-Sultan);
- Ironman Gurye (South Korea);
- Ironman Philippines (Subic Bay) ;
- Ironman Malaysia (Langkawi, Malaysia) ;
- Ironman Taiwan (Penghu).
Only the Taiwanese and Malaysian competitions appear in the rankings of the "athletes' choice awards" survey. The former is in the top 10 of the world's best Ironmans in terms of overall satisfaction and post-race experience. For the second one, the athletes' opinion is unanimous: they want to participate in the next edition!
What Ironman in Oceania?
One thing is for sure: Australia and New Zealand make triathletes' hearts beat faster!
The Nutri-Grain Ironman New Zealand holds the top spot in the rankings of most adored XXL triathlons. The competition with its grand landscapes and gigantic proportions has mobilized nearly 2,000 volunteers in 2019. An unforgettable experience for all participants, to be done at least once in a lifetime!
As for Australia, it does not leave one indifferent with its three renowned Ironman events taking place in Cairns, Port Macquarie and Busselton in Western Australia. The spectacular beauty of kangaroo country impressed competitors who ranked these races among the best in the world.
Which Ironmans in Africa?
South Africa is the host country for the African Ironman Championships. This competition takes place in Port Elizabeth, in Nelson Mandela Bay.
