If you're new to biking and want to learn more about the different disciplines of mountain biking, you're in the right place. Today, we're offering you a look at all-mountain biking.
What is all mountain biking?
The All Mountain MTB (or mountain biking) is the ideal discipline for all mountain enthusiasts who wish to practice biking in complete freedom, without any competitive spirit. It can be similar to the practice of hiking or trail in the mountains.
In some aspects, the practice of all mountain biking can resemble the practice of enduro but here the emphasis is a little more on the climb than on the descent unlike enduro. As a result, all mountain bikes are generally a little lighter than enduro bikes.
All mountain bike is usually ridden in a mountain environment, with natural trails and obstacles. The goal is then to have fun, to venture on different types of terrain including climbs, descents, sometimes obstacles to overcome in order to experience some thrills in a spirit of total freedom, without a competitive aspect.
The all mountain is also the opportunity to explore new territories, to discover new playgrounds and especially to enjoy the landscapes, respecting nature. Bref, if you like flora and fauna and you don't have the spirit of competition, all mountain biking is probably for you, even if you are a beginner.
What equipment for all mountain biking?
To practice all mountain, you will need a semi-rigid or, preferably, full-suspension mountain bike, adapted to the discipline with a telescopic seatpost and disc brakes. A little lighter than enduro bikes, they are also a little more affordable in terms of budget with first prices around 1500€. You'll also find electric mountain bikes in the all-mountain category.
As with any mountain bike discipline, you'll need a helmet to protect your head (preferably an all-mountain helmet to also protect the back of your neck in case of a fall or a full-face helmet if you're a daredevil), short or long gloves, mountain bike shorts with built-in foam for your comfort during the ride, and a bike jersey.
Now that you know all about all mountain biking, how about doing the same with other mountain biking disciplines like downhill, marathon downhill, freeride mountain biking, enduro mountain biking, cross country, cross-country marathon, mountain biking, four cross, dual slalom, dirt mountain biking, street mountain biking, trials mountain biking, or slope style ?
